Chinese authorities have said that wild animals are potentially intermediate hosts of the coronavirus. To prevent an outbreak like this in the future, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress adopted a ban on wildlife trade on Monday. And those who consume wild animals will face harsher punishments. The ban includes wild animals bred or reared in captivity. China isn't the only country cracking down on illegal wildlife trade as other Asian nations are following suit.
